We're not meant to Understand...

How did we grow up?
When did we start to learn that what we're doing is "O.K."

When we were younger, we were taught that you treat others and elders with respect, you never talk down to anyone, you treat others how you'd want to be treated, you never spoke out of line for any reason...

Never give up.
Don't ever give up on yourself.
Quitting isn't an option.
Thoughtless actions hold dire consequences.

Those are words that we used to once abide by. What happened?
Somewhere along the way, we were taught that it is perfectly okay to disrespect others and elders, that treating people like shit gave you popularity and that treating others with the utmost disgust meant that they had to treat you with respect.

Why?
What the hell happened?
Why the hell are we like this?

Simple times have passed and most of you who will read this will ignore me. Fine then. That's a form of disrespect in itself: ignoring what a peer has to say, especially since she has given this a lot of thought since her insomnia has gone back into full swing.

Simple times have passed. Simple people now rule over the intellectuals simply because they are "popular." What in Hell's Allegiances does being popular have to do with anything? Why should they get special treatment over people like me? People like the "freaks?" The outcasts? The nerds? Everyone else? Why?

You see it in schools everyday. Those girls who are prettier, blond, bustier, popular get away with acting like whores whereas the girls who no one ever even takes into account get in trouble if their shirt even shows the slightest mid-drift.

Those guys who are cool, handsome by todays lowered standards, jocks, popular get away with their pants hanging down around their ankles. If a normal guy were to show even the slightest hem of boxers, they'd be in a world of trouble.

Why is it that some girls and guys get advantages because they are "popular" or "cool?"
Why doesn't the world work the way it did when we were all in Kindergarten?
Why can't it?

I don't understand. Today, I am tortured by the fact that I am who I am. A punk. A bitch. An elder pagan. A no religion, book loving, writing "dork." Why should I be crucified for being who I am? Why should I?! Why should anyone be picked on for being who they are.

So what if they aren't rich.
So what if they don't drive the newest P.O.S. cars.
So what if they aren't of your preference.

They're still human. They deserve to be treated as such. I treat you all with the respect I honestly think you deserve. So maybe, I go off on you every now and again and maybe somedays I'm not the best person in the world. You wonder why. And you can't see it looking at you. You're blinded by the way you've been treated for years: like filthy, disgusting royalty. Like Daddy's Princess, Mommy's Boy.

And you turn everything you get into a chance to maim the pride and self respect of others. It's despicable.

We grew up the same. We all know the sayings for respect. We all know how to utilize what we've been given. And yet...

The sad part is...

Most of us ignore that voice that says we should be nice.
That voice that tells us when we've gone too far.
We ignore our conscious.
We ignore the only thing in this world that makes any sense whatsoever.

All because we're too dim to see that respecting others starts with respecting ourselves.
Too dim to see that if we didn't act like we were raised of Royal blood, people would like us more.
We're too dim to understand that the reason the world is like this...
The reason that most of us are miserable...
The reason that most of us are despised...

The fault is our own.
